November and December Conferences

You still have to time to register and attend these conferences and meetings around Wisconsin and the nation:

  • The Wisconsin Division of Public Health will host a Community Engagement Forum at the Aspirus Medical Education Center in Wausau November 20, 1:30-4:00.  This is an opportunity to provide input to the WI State Health Plan, Healthiest Wisconsin 2020.  It’s especially important that planners hear the concerns of rural residents and providers.  The forums are an opportunity for the public “to lend their voices and perspectives in developing public health policy for the next decade. Healthiest Wisconsin 2020 will become the policy roadmap to protect health and safety, eliminate inequalities in health, and transform our public health system to achieve our shared vision of Healthy People in Healthy and Safe Wisconsin Communities.”  The event is free, but you should register online or contact Margaret Schmelzer, (608) 266-0877 for more information.
  • The Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health and several other regional organizations will host the Midwest Rural and Agricultural Safety and Health Forum November 20 & 21 in Davenport, Iowa.  The Forum will “provide updated information on agricultural and rural safety and health, and strengthen collaborative efforts among researchers, practitioners, agricultural producers and medical professionals.”   Topics will include rural health care reform; injury prevention; rural mental health; pesticide exposure; and tractor safety initiatives.
  • The National Rural Health Association hosts the Rural Minority & Multicultural Health Conference December 11 & 12 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The theme of the 2008 conference is “Connecting the Dots: Economic Development and Rural Minority & Multicultural Health.”  The conference is a “hands-on educational event where racial, ethnic and underserved populations can examine issues of common need; develop and share strategies, models and tools for providing solutions within their communities; create effective partnerships and outreach efforts to deliver care in rural and frontier communities; and access the resources needed to create programs that will benefit all rural populations.”
