Health IT: What is it, do I really need it and what will it cost me?

Health information technology can be confusing to many of us.  We read and hear about all the changes going on in this field and may ask ourselves, What is HIT?  How do I find out if I and my organization need to get involved with it?  And, how do we pay for it?  This post won’t [...]

Rural Hospitals and Clinics

The WI Office of Rural Health (where I work!) has a principal goal of providing assistance and support to Critical Access Hospitals-rural hospitals with 25 or fewer beds.  As you may know, we also support rural health clinics and rural EMS through resources such as this blog, our website, community grants, workshops and other methods. More Children’s Health Resources

There are so many great resources out there for programs directed at improving children’s heath that I thought I’d put up another post on the subject.  If I haven’t said it before and if you haven’t figured out from my other posts, I define resources broadly.  Grants, of course, but also conferences, training opportunities, tools [...]

Rural and Agricultural Safety

Whatever the reason—high gas prices, bad economy—the number of motor vehicle deaths in Wisconsin in 2008 (589) was the lowest since 1944.  That’s pretty remarkable, especially when you consider that there were 737 in 2007.  The per capita rates must be even more remarkable (there were a lot fewer people here in 1944 than there [...]

Conference Opportunities in Wisconsin

Over the next few months communities across Wisconsin will host several conferences on a variety of health issues.  Some offer discounts for early registration or those who are already members of the sponsoring organization.  Some even have scholarships!  I encourage you to consider attending these or other conferences—they really are a good source of information [...]
