EMS Grants
Rural EMS and ambulance services often struggle to find and obtain necessary resources. As municipal and county governments face increasing budget problems, this situation will probably become worse. There are a number of grant and funding sources around the state and nation specifically for EMS. Here are a few:
-  An excellent federal source that I think is often overlooked is USDA Rural Development. The Rural Emergency Responders Initiative is designed to “strengthen the ability of rural communities to respond to local emergencies.” Funds may be used to finance equipment, vehicles, or buildings for various types of projects, including EMS/ambulance, EMT training facilities, and communications.Â

The WI Bureau Of Emergency Medical Services provides funds to all EMS agencies in the State through the Funding Assistance Program for Ambulance Service Providers. The only requirement… you have to complete one form. This is a program every EMS organization in the State should participate in, but I know for a fact that many agencies do not request this money (several thousand dollars every year). Contact the Bureau at (608) 266-0471 for more information.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs – Wisconsin is in the middle of the Emergency Medical Services for Children project to provide pediatric jump kits to every EMS agency in the State. Local clubs are “adopting” EMS agencies in their communities and regions. Contact the Federation or look on their website for a club near you. They have established a grant program for agencies that aren’t near an active club. Again, this is a “freebie”—all you have to do to receive a kit is ask!
