Substance Abuse & Mental Health Grants
Mental health, oral health and EMS are some areas that I think get kind of lost in the shuffle for funding, so I try to highlight as many opportunities for grants, conferences and other resources as I can. Here are some substance abuse and mental health resources.
Â
May 14 UW Eau Claire will host a one day policy forum, Addressing Alcohol Abuse through Public Policy:  Finding Common Ground.  The goal is to have an open discussion on the scope of this public health issue and the policies that have been enacted and/or proposed to solve the problem. According to a recent study, WI had higher rates of underage drinking and binge drinking than the national average. In addition to the Forum in Eau Claire there will be five satellite locations around the State where you can participate. Scholarships are available.
Â
These Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant opportunities have application deadlines in May. Some have restrictions, so make sure you read the eligibility guidelines before beginning work on a proposal.

The Healthy Transitions Initiative is only open to state and tribal governments. However, you can partner with a government to implement programs that integrate services for young people with mental health problems and their families. Programs should help with the “often difficult transition to adulthood and the successful assumption of adult roles and responsibilities.â€Â Proposals are due May 20.
-
Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Grants (STOP) are only open to organizations that are current or previous grantees of the Drug-Free Communities Program. Your program should consist of a community coalition that will focus on environmental strategies for preventing and reducing underage drinking. Proposals are due May 26.
-
Grants for Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration are limited to “publicly funded community mental health and other community-based behavioral health agencies.â€Â Programs should improve the physical health of people with serious mental illnesses by coordinating and integrating primary healthcare services into community mental health settings. The deadline is May 27.
