WI Office of Rural Health Resources

We regularly update the Office of Rural Health website with information, tools, presentations and other resources and assistance for rural communities.  We’ve made a few changes and additions lately and I thought I’d bring them to your attention.

We know that pretty much everyone is having a budget crunch these days.  So, we’re relying more on technology to bring resources to you, rather than requiring the public to travel to our meetings.  For example, last summer we presented the results of our EMS needs assessment through a webinar.  The Report on Rural EMS Needs was recorded and is available to view on our site.  We regularly record our training events for our Workshops website.  In this way, even if you aren’t able to attend, you can access the information at any time.  We currently have recordings of presentations on Accessing Capital Markets, a State EMS Office update and insights into grant writing among many other topics.   I gave a presentation last year on finding grant resources and a copy of the PowerPoint I used, with active links to grant websites, is available.  In conjunction with the State EMS Office, we offer an online EMT training course, Weapons of Mass Destruction.  After taking the course and completing a quiz, you can print a certificate of completion.

We’re also recording other events we hope you’ll find interesting and useful.  Our Director, John Eich, recently sat down with Dr Eugene Lengerich to talk about his work on rural cancer disparities.  The Rural Cancer Health Disparities Interview is on our website and also on YouTube; we’re trying to use as many different media as possible to communicate with as many people as possible about the resources and assistance we provide.  Dr. Sara Karon of the UW’s Center for Health Systems Research & Analysis narrates a PowerPoint presentation, Evaluating Community-Based Programs, which will help you better understand program evaluation.  Evaluation design is an important part of most grant proposals.

People often ask to see examples of successful grant proposals.  For the past several years the ORH has awarded a number of grants to coalitions working on health issues in rural communities.  Proposals that were awarded a Rural Community Grant are on our website, where you can see a successful proposal narrative, budget, workplan and evaluation plan.  I’ll also post the proposal guidelines here later this spring.

These are just a small portion of the many resources on our website.  I encourage you to explore and investigate.  Subscribe to the Rural Reporter for daily updates on rural health issues and resources.  Follow me on Twitter.  And please send me feedback if there’s anything you’d like to see!

I want to mention a couple conference and webinar opportunities later this month.
