A Final EMS Week Post
One more grant, a few Wisconsin-specific resources you might be interested in, and a few other resources. Get out and participate in your community’s EMS activities this weekend!
Â
The Federal Health Resources and Services Administration will award grants through the Public Access Defibrillation Demonstration Projects program. They’re looking for “comprehensive, community-based public access defibrillation demonstration projects†that maximize community access to AEDs and provide community training in CPR and AEDs. They’ll fund proposals up to $180,000. The deadline is June 22. This is a federal grant—as I’ve mentioned before, federal grant proposals can take longer to prepare, so if you’re interested, don’t hesitate to start writing your proposal!
Â
The WI EMS Association has posted pictures from the 5th Annual WI EMS Cruise earlier this year. You can also purchase photos and DVDs!
Â
The WI Department of Natural Resources has created an online boating safety education course.  In addition to the online course, you can search for the nearest in-person class.
Â
In January the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released the National EMS Education Standards. It describes in an easy table format the expected competencies for first responders, EMTs and Paramedics.Â
Â
The American College of Emergency Physicians published an EMS Week planning guide (intended for the 2009 week, but the information is applicable at any time). The guide contains ideas on monthly outreach activities. For example, focus on seniors in March by providing information on falls prevention and AED demonstrations at senior centers. ACEP also has an EMS Week website with additional resources and outreach tools you can use all year, including Tips on Hosting a Successful Open House and ideas on teen driver safety programs.
Â
Finally, Alltop describes itself as the “online magazine rack.â€Â You can search for blogs by topic and it will return complete linkable lists. For example, there’s a Paramedic category that lists over 20 blogs on EMS topics. There’s a link to an online video diary of the EMS Memorial Bike Ride that’s going on right now.  Alltop is a great way to browse what people are writing on line about EMS. Kind of like a magazine rack…Â
