EMS Week in WI; Plus More Grant Info
Information on WI EMS:
Â
-
The Baraboo District Ambulance Service will be observing EMS Week… all week! Tuesday and Wednesday crews will be at school crossing guards, distributing  first aid kits. Wednesday they will be at a local grocery store checking blood pressures, blood glucose, and answering questions about the service. They’ll also hand out t-shirts. And Friday they host a Red Cross Blood Drive at the station, 120 5th St. in Baraboo.
-
Plymouth Ambulance Service is celebrating 25 years of service. To mark the occasion during EMS week, they will hold an open house on May 23 at their headquarters, 604 S. Milwaukee St., Plymouth, from 10:00 – 2:00. Activities include ambulance and equipment demonstrations, CPR classes and a raffle of a new 2009 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid.  Raffle tickets are $100 and they will sell only 2,000 tickets!
-
The Wisconsin EMS Section will hold two additional service director Leadership Orientation sessions next month: June 6 in Ashland and June 27 in Wisconsin Dells. The sessions will “review some of the important aspects of EMS service compliance and discuss some of the different programs and the important aspects that all directors and supervisors should be aware.â€Â Make sure you look at their webpage before you go—it gives important registration information.
Â
I’ve come across a number of EMS/firefighter grants lately. You should consider applying for at least one of these or those I’ve mentioned in previous posts!
Â
-
Medtronic Foundation sponsors the HeartRescue Grant Program, awarding grants up to $30,000 to increase awareness and education of sudden cardiac death, early defibrillation, and the need for early intervention. They focus on school-based training in CPR and AED use (though they do NOT fund AEDs). Great opportunity for EMS to partner with schools. Application deadline is October 15.
-
FM Global supports fire departments and other community organizations with their Fire Prevention Grant Program.  They will fund fire prevention education and training programs and pre-fire planning, including computer equipment, education programs and training. This is an opportunity to fund equipment purchases and community training programs. There is no deadline—proposals are reviewed quarterly, and no limit on requests.
-
And don’t forget the Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club Community Giving Program. They award grants up to $5,000 to organizations in the communities they serve. Contact the Community Involvement Coordinator at your local store. No deadline.
