EMS Week May 17-23
EMS: A Proud Partner in Your Community is the theme of 2009 National EMS Week. Events are scheduled around the country and probably in your community. Here are a few in Wisconsin:

The WI EMS Association open house is May 16 from 12:00 to 3:00 at their new headquarters, 26422 Oakridge Dr., Wind Lake (near Burlington). There will be refreshments and a visit from Flight for Life at 1:00.

Waushara County EMS will host their Annual EMS Family Fun Fair May 21 on Park St. in Wautoma. Activities will include games, emergency vehicle tours and a visit from Theda Star helicopter.

May 16 from 8:00 to 2:00 there will be an open house at the Manitowoc Wal-Mart, 4115 Calumet Av. There will be EMS vehicles on hand for tours, Theda Star Helicopter from 9:00 until 11:00, Flight For Life Helicopter from 12:00 until 2:00.

The UW School of Medicine and Public Health is a sponsor the 41st Annual Emergency Care and Trauma Symposium in Wisconsin Dells, June 24-26. Events include a Tractor Rollover & Grain Bin Extrication Simulation and the 7th Annual EMS Olympics—you can still register your service to compete!

RapidCE.com, EMSResponder.com, and EPS411.com are offering their two part training program on pandemic influenza free to EMTs, Paramedics, and first responders. The course informs providers on how a pandemic is defined, recognizing patient symptoms and pandemic planning and preparation principles for emergency response personnel. You will receive one hour of continuing education credit for each part of the course.
