Grants for Children’s Health and Wellness Programs

This post is all about grants:

  • The Saucony Athletic Footwear corporation sponsors the Run for Good program.  Run for Good encourages active lifestyles for children, with a goal of combating obesity.  They will consider proposals for programs that work towards this goal; applications that involve running programs will be given priority consideration.  Applications are due June 13 (some places on the website refer to 2008 or earlier.  Select “APPLY” on the webpage for the most current information.)
  • CVS Pharmacies sponsors two grant programs focused on improving children’s health.  All Kids Can is committed to making life easier for children with disabilities.  All Kids Can considers proposals that focus on three areas: raising awareness in schools and in local communities about the importance of inclusion;  building barrier-free playgrounds so children of all abilities can play side-by-side; and providing medical rehabilitation and related services to children with disabilities.  The proposal deadline is June 15.
  • CVS’ Community Grants Program also funds proposals that benefit children with disabilities, specifically those that provide health and rehab services and that encourage physical movement and play.  They will also awards grants to public school programs that promote inclusion of disabled students and programs that improve access to health care for anyone, regardless of ability.  Submit proposals for this program by October 31.
  • HRSA’s Epilepsy and Telehealth grants are a great opportunity for you to expand existing programs in these areas.  The program is specifically targeted at rural/underserved areas.  They are interested in programs that will provide services in different settings, e.g., long term care facilities, community health centers or clinics; demonstrate how telehealth networks can be used to improve the quality of health care services; improve the training of health care providers; and expand and improve the quality of health information available to providers, patients, and their families.  Proposals are due June 29.  This is a federal grant, so the proposal process is a bit more complicated than the other grants here.  However, they will award up to $250,000 for each program selected.
  • The Great American Bake Sale program supports “efforts to increase participation among low-income children in summer and after-school meal programs,” specifically USDA nutrition assistance programs such as the Summer Food Service Program.  They will award grants up to $10,000 in two categories:  to organizations that sponsor USDA funded programs and to organizations that work to increase participation in USDA programs though education and outreach.  Proposals are due September 30.
