WI Oral Health Funding and Resources
Here are a few grants and resources and information for Wisconsin oral health programs:
-
The Children’s Health Alliance of WI manages the Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile dental sealant program and awards grants to school-based sealant programs. Eligible expenses include professional staff wages, equipment, clinical supplies and sealant material. The Alliance encourages dentists, schools, public health departments, clinics and others working with school dental programs to apply. The proposal deadline is June 22.
-
WI Dental Association Foundation grants may be used to “increase access to, and education on, oral health care.” The Foundation will award grants up to $10,000 for programs that promote oral health. They are looking for proposals that encourage volunteerism, contain oral health awareness education and promotion content or restorative, preventive and dental education services. Proposals are due August 31.
Earlier this year the Children’s Health Alliance published a report on the Seal-A-Smile program and the progress it has made in providing oral health services to children throughout the State. Partnering to Seal-A-Smile reports that between 2005 and 2007, the number of schools participating each year increased from 135 to 200 and the number of children receiving oral health education each year increased from 9,000 to over 14,000. The report includes information on individual programs around the State that have received Seal-A-Smile awards.
The WI Dental Association released two public service announcements this spring to remind individuals not to neglect their oral health during these challenging economic times. The ‘Back-To-Basics’ campaign emphasizes preventive care and a good diet; both are essential to maintaining oral health and avoiding significant dental problems in the future. Studies have found that preventive care and dental visits tend to decline during times of higher unemployment. The announcements began airing across the State in April.
