Catching Up With Conferences

I’m still catching up on posts; here are some conferences.  Sorry that some of these are kind of last minute.  The good news is that many of these are right here in Wisconsin.

  • August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month; VSP, a vision insurance plan, funds Sight for Students to provide free eye exams and glasses to low-income, uninsured children.  The program helps over 50,000 children each year.  Anyone interested in the program must work through a local partner, such as Headstart or a Boys and Girls Club.  See the website for eligibility and partners in your area.  There is no deadline.
  • The National Association of Rural Health Clinics 2009 Fall Institute  is September 3-5 in Nashville, TN.  Sessions will cover Medicare billing, cost reporting and improving patient flow.
  • The National Rural Health Association’s  Conference on Medication Use in Rural America is September 9-11 in Kansas City, MO.  Presenters will address the challenges of “one pharmacy towns”, HIT adoption in rural pharmacies and rural pharmacist recruitment.
  • The HIPAA Collaborative of Wisconsin’s annual conference is September 11 in Wisconsin Dells.  The primary topic is maintaining patient confidentiality while implementing electronic health records and HIT.
  • The Wisconsin Wellness Council is hosting the 19th annual Worksite Wellness Conference in Wisconsin Dells on September 15.  The theme is Good Health is Good Business and you will hear presentations on employee incentive strategies and onsite clinics, among other issues.
  • UW LaCrosse Extension will host the 2009 Suicide Prevention Summit on September 16 in LaCrosse.  Topics include veterans and suicide, prevention resources and suicide risk assessment.

And don’t forget, Sunday is National Toasted Marshmallow Day.
