Grants and Conferences-November/December

Here are several conferences and grant opportunities coming up in the next month.

 

MetaStar, Wisconsin’s Quality Improvement Organization (QIO), will host the Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Reduction Learning Session Outcomes Congress on December 2 in Stevens Point.  You’ll learn best practices for pressure ulcer prevention and treatment.  Continuing Education units are available.

 

The National Rural Health Association hosts the Rural Minority and Multicultural Health Conference December 9 – 11 in Memphis.  The Conference will address four critical areas of rural health and economic development: education, entrepreneurship, social infrastructure and public infrastructure.

The State Health Policy Institute aims to form a corps of Health Promotion Policy Experts who will become specialists in educating their state legislators and other professionals on the latest policy and research in chronic disease prevention and control.  The Society for Public Health Education, sponsor of the Institute, is offering scholarships.  Apply by December 15.

 

The WI Department of Health Services is inviting nursing home stakeholders to apply for grants through the Civil Money Penalty Funds.  This is money collected as fines for nursing home code violations.  They are looking for “innovative projects designed to protect the property, health, safety, and welfare of facility residents and to improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of facility operations so as to improve the quality of life, care, and treatment of its residents.â€Â  Apply by November 25.

 

The Ag Star Fund for Rural America is “committed to enhancing the quality of life and future opportunities for rural residents and their communities.â€Â  They will fund proposals from eastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin in four areas: energy, environment, technology and quality of life, which includes EMS equipment.  The deadline is November 30.

 

The Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program will contract with two or three health care systems in southwestern counties to increase colorectal cancer screening rates.  They will give preference to proposals that include access to free screenings for the un/underinsured.  They contracts are for $3,000-$5,000; proposals are due December 10.

 

Saucony, the athletic shoe manufacturer, will award grants to encourage active and healthy lifestyles in children through the Run for Good Program.  They will consider proposals for projects that increase running opportunities and activities.  The deadline is December 13; contact Saucony for a current application.  The website version is for 2008-09.
