Grants, Grants, Grants

Here are several grants that target children’s health, community development and technology:

The American Academy of Pediatrics sponsors two grant programs.  The proposal deadline for both is January 29, so don’t delay in applying on line.  The Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Implementation Program awards up to $12,000 to pediatricians to develop and implement community-based child health initiatives.  This program is focused on pilot projects that will increase children’s access to health care.  Pediatricians must lead the project and they must include community partners.  The CATCH Secondhand Smoke Exposure Reduction Program will awards grants to pediatrician- led projects that will reduce children’s exposure to second hand smoke.  This is not a smoking cessation funding opportunity.  Technical assistance is available.  These sound like great opportunities.

USDA Rural Development is accepting nominations for the Rural Community of the Year Award.  The award will recognize rural community accomplishments during calendar year 2009.  There doesn’t appear to be an restriction on the type of accomplishments they’ll recognize.  Examples they provide are job creation, water quality improvement or health indicator improvement.  The announcement doesn’t specify the nature of the award, but this is an opportunity for you and your community to get recognition for successful programs.  Get you application in by January 29.

The Governor’s Business Plan Contest will award technical assistance, seed money and a grant up to $50,000 to encourage the creation and start-up of high-tech businesses in Wisconsin.  The contest includes mentoring and marketing opportunities.  Contestants will receive valuable feedback on their business plans.  This is great chance to help develop technology businesses in your community.  250 word abstracts are due January 31.

Here’s an opportunity for your non-profit to receive audio, video and web conferencing equipment.  C3 Conferencing will award $2,500 in equipment and a $2,500 grant.  They are looking for proposals that explain how your organization can “increase internal communication, communication between donors, clients and communities and/or effective communication strategies in times of crisis or other large scale campaigns” with the grant and equipment.  Apply by February 1.
