Rural Wisconsin Photo Contest

WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're looking for great photos of rural Wisconsin, and we think you might have some...
So we're holding a photo contest - with cash prizes!  We're looking for photos of rural landscapes, small towns, health care and recreation. So dig through your hard drive, tell your friends, and pull out the camera for some stunning winter shots.  We'd love photos from all seasons, and all parts of the state.
We're taking entries until March 31, 2012.  Please email us digital versions only, and send in as many as you'd like.  We'll put all the (appropriate) entries up in an online gallery, with credit to the photographer.
One of the reasons we're doing this is to have real rural Wisconsin photos to use on our new website (unveiled Spring 2012) - no actors and stock photography for us!  So please understand that by submitting a photo you grant us rights to use them online. We won't give or sell them to others, and we'll make every effort to always include credit to the photographer when used. We're happy to link to your site if you're selling them.
We'll pick our favorite 3 photos in each category, and the prizes (1st place: $100, 2nd place: $50, 3rd place: $25) will be awarded for each category!
Photograph categories:
  • Rural Health Care: anything health care related (hospitals, clinics, EMS, etc); facilities, features or staff - no identifiable patients please.
  • Small Town life: from Main Street to the outskirts, casual cookouts to town festivals, whatever catches your eye in town.
  • Rural Landscape: our beautiful scenery in rural Wisconsin; whether horizon shots or macro images of flowers - if it's the natural world this is your category.
  • Recreation: a photograph depicting how people spend their free time in rural Wisconsin.
[Small print:]
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each of the four categories will have their photos highlighted on the home page of the new Wisconsin Office of Rural Health’s website (www.worh.org) being unveiled in Spring 2012, and/or in various other WI-ORH publications.  Credits will be given to winning individuals when used.  By submitting a photo you grant the WI-ORH rights to use them in our online and paper publications. Submit as many photographs as you wish but you may only be a “winner” once.  We are looking for submissions from original photographers only.
Please send digital uncompressed TIFF, png or maximum quality JPEG (300 dpi, minimum 1600 pixels on the longest side).  Submissions can be sent to Maria Radtke at mlradtke@wisc.edu by March 31, 2012; 11:59pm.  When emailing, indicate “Rural Wisconsin Photo Contest” in the subject line.  In the body of your email, indicate: 1) your full name; 2) each photograph's document name; 3) photograph category; and 4) city/town in Wisconsin the photograph was taken OR instead you can download, fill out and email this MS Word document to help you provide the correct information (MS Word photo description download). If you'd like to include a web link with your photos, please also include that. Cash prizes will be awarded by the University of Wisconsin, and they will need full names, address and social security numbers to issue a check (for IRS purposes).  Submissions must be from the original photograher, or accompanied by an explanation if not.
Entries will be judged on a weighted point system with points awarded by each of the judges independently. Points will be tallied and total points awarded will rank winning entries.  Judges' decision on winning entries will be final.  Judges reserve the right to remove any photos from the competition that are considered to be inappropriate in general or not suitable for the category to which it was submitted.  Late submissions will not be considered for the contest but are always welcome.
The Wisconsin Office of Rural Health (WI-ORH) was established in 1975, within the University of Wisconsin's School of Medicine and Public Health, to address shortages of health services in rural areas.
