Plan from here is to finish analysis (next step is to look at the quality measures and assess how they might impact rural providers), and then put together comprehensive comments on proposed rule to CMS. But could be uphill battle. Frankly, we’ve made detailed comments throughout this process, and they don’t seem to be getting acknowledged.

One thing we’re doing in addition is working with NRHA to gather survey data on rural provider HIT adoption rates. The results could help us clearly demonstrate the problems with the proposed rule for rural.

Fixing some of this may ultimately require organized push back by providers through their delegations. I’ll be working with NRHA and the Rural HIT Coalition to see how we can coordinate.

It is really sad to see how messed up regulations can get .(even though it is proposed language) I don’t believe for one second that any physicians providing Medicare services were meant to be excluded from participating in the EHR incentives. Just wait until we start seeing the Healthcare Reform stuff!!!!
